Shuttle Races for Space Station

SPACE CENTER, Houston (AP) -- Space shuttle Discovery raced toward the international space station to deliver the first replacement crew for the orbiting outpost.

The shuttle is scheduled to make its 235-mile-high hookup with space station Alpha early Saturday.

The main objective of Discovery's 12-day flight is to exchange Alpha crews. Russian cosmonaut Yuri Usachev and American astronauts Jim Voss and Susan Helms will move into the space station for a 4{-month stay. Helms will be the first woman to live on the space station.
