SOMEWHERE BETWEEN the sound businesses weathering a rough patch and the no-hopers unlikely to stay afloat lies a stratum of troubled companies and stocks that are ripe for a turnaround. Picking a good turnaround prospect ''is an art form, or a mixture of art and science,'' said Dan Heron, head of investment communications at Gartmore Investment Management Ltd.
