New system of financial supervision on horizon

BEIJING, Mar 13, 2001 (AsiaPort via COMTEX) -- A possible drastic shake-up in the supervision of China's financial sector may be considered in an attempt to stamp out market abuses.

The proposals, which are at an early stage, would bring together the three main watchdogs to stop irregularities such as stock market manipulation.

The suggested measures, revealed by Wang Lianzhou, a senior official with the finance committee under the National People's Congress, would aim to make the system more efficient after China joins the World Trade Organization (WTO).
