If you were to fly over New York's Staten Island, you could see a
vast hilly landscape. You'd be looking at the largest human-made
structure on Earth, a garbage landfill called Fresh Kills. In 1991,
Fresh Kills surpassed the Great Wall of China for that distinction.
The name `Fresh Kills' comes from the Dutch and means fresh creek
or stream even though two billion tons of New York City trash are
now decomposing there. This week a barge dumped off the last garbage
