NSW:Former Cockatoo Dockyard workers can sue over asbestos

SYDNEY, April 5 AAP - Hundreds of former Cockatoo Dockyard workers will be able to
sue for asbestos-related diseases after a decision in the New South Wales Court of Appeal
today.

The state's highest court dismissed an appeal by Cockatoo Dockyard Pty Ltd against
compensation awarded to a man who died from mesothelioma in July 1999.

David Browne, who was in his 70s, died 10 days after being awarded $167,660.

He was employed at the dockyard as a fitter from mid-1948 to January 1950, where he
worked with asbestos materials, and was exposed to asbestos and other dusts in the turbine
