RIO DE JANEIRO, Apr. 10 (IPS) -- The 27 million households in
Brazil that use electrically heated showerheads may soon get
low-cost solar water heaters (known by the Spanish acronym ASBC),
a simple system that provides hot water with minimal energy
consumption.
The country would save 20.5 million kilowatt hours per year,
or 6 to 7 percent of total national consumption of electricity,
if this heater were to be used by 25 million families, according
to the calculations of Augustn Woelz, inventor of the system.
Along with the energy savings, he says, it would prevent the
emission of 10 million tons of carbon dioxide a year, the gas
