(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- Despite the state having to take more than 14 nursing homes due to financial woes earlier this month, health officials say the actions don't represent an overall trend of nursing-home neglect.
On April 6, through a court order, the state of Texas overtook 14 nursing homes owned by TLC Healthcare when owner Rocky Lemon couldn't afford to pay the staff, fire detection devices and other services needed for the residents' care.
Still, this trend is not reflective of most nursing homes in Texas, said Rosemary Patterson, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Human Services.
