It's hard to believe, considering how popular cheesecake is, that
its origins are ancient. The word "ancient" is not used lightly.
We have the Greeks to thank. They probably served cheesecake at the
Olympic Games circa 700 B.C.
Of course, it was not the New York-style cheesecake we adore. More
likely it was made with sheep or goat cheese, flour, and honey, but,
hey, it was the start of something big.
