China proposes arms race ban in outer space

GENEVA, Switzerland, Jun 07, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- In a diplomatic salvo squarely aimed at the proposed U.S. missile defense shield system, China during stalled global disarmament talks in Geneva on Thursday put forward proposals for a treaty banning an outer space arms race.

"The Chinese have a national interest to limit the U.S." on missile defense, said one delegate, who spoke on condition of nonattribution.
