Qld: Commonwealth to help fund fight against Black Sigatoka
BRISBANE, June 9 AAP - The Commonwealth government will contribute $5 million towards
the control the black sigatoka outbreak in far north Queensland's banana industry, federal
Agriculture Minister Warren Truss said today.
Mr Truss said the money with help fund an emergency management program, which will
run from June 2001 until June 2002.
The program, to concentrate on the outbreak in the Tully River Valley, is expected
to cost $17.8 million of which the federal and state component will be around $10 million.
