NSW: Forum on cold water pollution

SYDNEY, June 18 AAP - Experts are studying how to combat the threat to ecosystems in
NSW rivers from cold water released from large dams.

The problem, known as thermal pollution, has been recognised for more than 30 years
and contributes to the elimination of native fish, loss of recreational uses like swimming
and the proliferation of cold water pests such as carp.

It is believed to affect around 2,500km of the state's major waterways.

A two-day forum will start today in Albury, in southern NSW, to try and address the
problem throughout the Murray Darling Basin.
