Qld: Indigenous living conditions the first focus of budget

BRISBANE, June 19 AAP - Living conditions in Queensland's remote indigenous communities
will be targeted this year with a jump of almost 18 per cent in spending from the state
budget.

A large slice of the $107 million funding package will compensate those indigenous
people still owed award wages after years of unpaid labour.

But $7 million is to be used to provide serviced housing for seven Aboriginal communities
and water, sewerage and drainage in 15 communities in the Torres Strait.
