Indonesia has lagged behind most of its neighbors in recovering from
the ravages of the Asian economic crisis three years ago. In many
ways, it's a case study of how globalization can harm developing nations
when international capital flees and the local currency collapses,
leaving bankruptcy and unemployment in their wake. Political and
economic instability still trouble Indonesia, but on one of its islands
an experiment in globalization has begun that ...
