Article: Ex-deputy director: I panicked after receiving RM1,000 note

KUALA LUMPUR, Mon. - A former deputy director of the International
Trade and Industry Ministry told the Sessions Court today that he received
a RM1,000 note with an attached memo describing the money as a "tangkal
pengeras" (good luck charm).

Abdul Shukor Ibrahim, 42, now with the Finance Ministry, said he
"panicked" when he saw the money in an envelope addressed to him along
with two other application letters for Bumiputera shares.

He said the handwritten memo with the letterhead of Layang Mawar Sdn
Bhd, signed by a Sulaiman Ahmad, asked for Abdul Shukor's "kind consideration"
in an application for shares.
