Qld: New political party calls for GST repeal

A new political party set to contest the next federal election is calling for the GST
to be repealed on the eve of the anniversary of its introduction.

The Socialist Alliance launched protests yesterday in Brisbane shopping centres ahead
of the first-year anniversary of the tax system.

The party, formed from various socialist groups in March -- including the Australian
Branch of the Workers' Communist Party of Iraq -- is planning to stand over 20 candidates
nationally.
