Thursday, July 12, 2001 -- Palestinian officials yesterday welcomed the appointment of Palestinian spokeswoman Hanan Ashrawi as Arab League spokeswoman, saying that the articulate Palestinian legislator and former English professor would help improve the Palestinian's image and counter Israeli information campaigns in the West. However, they said, the appointment would in no way change the policies of the Arab League.
