Friday, July 13, 2001 -- Residents might be winning the battle to preserve the few patches of green in Kikar Hurva of the Jewish Quarter.
Jerusalem may be renowned for its sand-colored stone, but some residents of the Jewish Quarter want a greener landscape. Thanks to a last-minute intervention, they might be getting their wish. When piles of stones arrived in the Hurva square several weeks ago, the residents did not know why, says Ruth Baks, who has lived in the Jewish Quarter for over 20 years.
