Vic: Melbourne to get $15m leukaemia research centre

MELBOURNE, July 23 AAP - A team of scientists at Melbourne's Walter and Eliza Hall
Institute of Medical Research has been awarded $15 million to establish a new leukaemia
research centre.

The grant, announced today by the United States-based Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society,
is one of only three applications funded from a field of 28.

It is the first time the privately-funded New York society has established a specialised
research centre outside the US.

Professor Jerry Adams, the director of the new Melbourne centre, today said the grant
recognised decades of world-class research by the institute ...
