Banning child labour is not easy, especially when there is no mechanism
to help those child workers who will eventually lose the means of supporting
their families, reports The Nation's Malee Traisawasdichai.

When Vong Chom Nam was 12-years-old, he no longer spent his days at school.
Instead, he worked at a construction site in Phnom Penh. Now, as he turns
16, he scurries around the garbage dump, collecting refuse for a living.

''I didn't work long at the construction site. I was often sick and weak
from carrying heavy loads of bricks and tiles, so my employer asked me
to leave. Ever since then I've been a scavenger," Vong said.
