(Kaleidoscope) (U-WIRE) BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Twelve percent of all medical students become clinically ill during their first years in school. Thirty percent of residents face the same depression during their internship years.
According to the American Medical School Association (AMSA) much of this situation is caused by one prevailing factor, stress. Frequently, residential medical students and interns are required to work 36-hour shifts. These shifts, in an on-going schedule, may add up to 100 hours for a typical student's work week.
