One of the oldest surviving veterans has died. James Edward Brown
was 107 years old. Brown served as a cook during World War I aboard
the USS Langley, the first US aircraft carrier. His family says he
was the oldest black Navy veteran. Brown's grandson, Michael Collier,
says his grandfather's age and veteran status led to a certain kind
of celebrity in San Diego, where he lived.
