Vic: Five Victoria Police officers receive UN service medals

Five Victoria Police officers who helped establish a police presence in East Timor
and oversaw major crime investigations have been rewarded for their services.

The members were part of a contingent of Australian police who assisted the United
Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor for six months.

While helping to develop the East Timor Police Service, the officers also led investigations
into mass murders and major assaults, established new police stations, monitored refugee
camps and assisted welfare and aid agencies.
