NEWARK -- Ragweed, the annual bane of more than 2 million hay fever sufferers
in the state, sprouted much sooner than usual this summer, the
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey has reported.

Pollen counters found their first ragweed July 23 -- the earliest in
12 years, said Dr. Leonard Bielory, director of the Asthma and Allergy
Research Center at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School.
