Fed: Better prospects for asylum seekers in Australia: Ruddock

SYDNEY, Aug 17 AAP - Better chances of gaining refugee status and the prospect of support
benefits made Australia an attractive destination for asylum seekers, Immigration Minister
Philip Ruddock said today.

But refugees were finding it increasingly difficult to travel to Australia from Indonesia
and were looking for other areas from which to leave, he said.

Mr Ruddock's comments followed the arrival yesterday of a wooden fishing boat carrying
one of the largest ever groups of asylum seekers to arrive in Australia.
