NEW YORK (AP) -- Serena Williams powered her way into the finals of the U.S. Open on Friday, wearing out top-seeded Martina Hingis with huge serves and defeating the No. 1 player in the world 6-3, 6-2 in 51 minutes.

Williams, the 1999 Open champion, will play for the title Saturday night against the winner of Friday's second semifinal between No. 2 Jennifer Capriati and No. 4 Venus Williams, the defending champion and Serena's sister.

Hingis, who has maintained her No. 1 world ranking despite not winning a Grand Slam since the 1999 Australian Open, simply could not keep up with Williams' hard-hitting game. ...
