SA: No plans to shut Pasminco's Port Pirie smelter

ADELAIDE, Sept 20 AAP - The Pasminco administrator had no plans to close the company's
Port Pirie smelter, South Australian Opposition Leader Mike Rann said today.

The company employs about 700 people at Port Pirie, north of Adelaide, at a plant which
handles lead, silver and zinc smelting.

Mr Rann met with administrator Bruce Carter today and said he had been assured the
smelter was profitable and there were no plans for redundancies there.

"The smelter operations are profitable and must be viewed as a separate entity and
a going concern," Mr Rann said.
