Humberto downgraded to tropical storm

MIAMI, Sep 27, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Humberto lost hurricane status as its winds dropped to 70 mph Thursday and headed out to sea and almost certain death by the end of the weak.

Humberto was never a threat to land, but early in the week developed into a Category 2 hurricane with 105 mph winds.

At 5 a.m. EDT, the center of the tropical storm was located near latitude 42.4 degrees north, longitude 50.0 degrees west, or 345 miles southeast of Cape ...
