This past week marked the first anniversary of the resumption of the
Palestinian revolt, or intifada, against Israeli occupation. More
than 700 people have been killed, mostly Palestinians. The renewed
conflict stunned many who believed the establishment of a Palestinian
state was imminent. One person not surprised was Israeli journalist
Amira Hass. Hass is the only Israeli Jewish reporter who lives in
the Occupied Territories. She spent three years in the Gaza Strip
and now lives in the West Bank city of Ramallah. NPR's Jennifer Ludden
