Salvors wait for Ehime Maru to settle
HONOLULU, Oct 15, 2001 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The wreck of the Ehime Maru was being allowed to settle on the ocean floor off Honolulu Monday after the Navy completed the long-awaited move of the sunken Japanese fisheries vessel to shallower waters where divers will soon attempt to recover the remains of nine people who were killed when the ship sank last winter.
A support barge was being brought Monday to the site about 1 mile off Honolulu International Airport where the 830-ton Ehime Maru was set down late Sunday after being slowly and gingerly moved some 14 miles from the spot where the ship ...
