Avigdor Lieberman, the former director-general of the Prime Minister's Office, announced yesterday he would contend for the chairmanship of the World Likud Convention and not that of the Jewish Agency.

Lieberman denied he was running for the post to take revenge against WLC chairman Ronni Milo, who is one of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's most prominent opponents in the Likud.

He said he respects Milo, whom he regards as "one of the most intelligent and sophisticated politicians we have ... it's an honor to run against him."
