Traditionally the New York Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball.
Just as traditional is the desire for baseball fans from everywhere
except New York to root against them. The September 11th terrorist
attacks have provoked a wave of sympathy for New York and to some
extent the Yankees. Commentator Frank Deford wonders if that's really
necessary.
