Yossi Ben-Aharon, formerly director-general of the prime minister's office under Yitzhak Shamir, announced yesterday he was running for chairman of the World Likud Convention (WLC).

Ben-Aharon will contend for the post against another former director-general of the prime ministry, Avigdor Lieberman, and incumbent WLC chairman Ronni Milo.

Ben-Aharon says he has the support of many WLC delegates in the United States, Europe and Australia, with whom he forged ties during his years as director-general and as head of the Israeli delegation to the talks with Syria.
