Fed: Aust troops begin combat operations near Kandahar - ADF
The Australian Defence Force says Australian special forces troops are in combat operations
south of Kandahar in Afghanistan but have not yet engaged the enemy.
The troops have established a forward base amid tough terrain and climatic conditions,
including regular sandstorms and sub-zero overnight temperatures.
Two Australian ships -- HMAS Kanimbla and HMAS Adelaide -- had also entered the Middle
East area of operations.
