GLOBALISATION does not only result in company mergers and acquisition but
also the merger of trade unions to be a "global player" in protecting the
interest of members during the intensifying international market liberalization.
Trade union expert Werner Thoennessen said previously a marriage of
workers' organizations often goes quietly unnoticed due to their modest
scale.
But the amalgamation of five separate German trade unions in March
this year to form a 3 million member "union of unions" did not go unnoticed.
