Retracing the steps of an exodus
CAIRO, Jan 04, 2002 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- It
is difficult to describe the anticipation and apprehension I felt
at the prospect of visiting Egypt for the first time after 37 years.
Egypt: a place I often referred to, every time I filled out a form
requiring date and place of birth, but never really thought about
otherwise. And yet, I have not had the luxury of not having to think
about who I am in terms of identity.
I realize that we are more than the sum of our parts. The issue does
not trouble me now as much as it intrigues me.
A wave of emotion overtook me when the plane departed for Cairo. As
