A RUSH OF NEW GLOBAL macro hedge funds is coming to market after a long dry spell. Actual numbers are hard to come by in this unregulated arena, but the offerings reflect a shift in strategies. Global macro funds, which make big bets on broad economic trends ­ often with borrowed money ­ fell out of favor in the late 1990s when their performance slipped and investors flocked to outsized returns from technology stocks.
