The United States is unlikely to significantly increase its military
presence in Central Asia, a U.S. congressman said Sunday during a
visit to the Tajik capital.
U.S. Rep. Jim Kolbe, chair of the House Appropriations foreign operations
subcommittee, said that with the first stage of the anti-terrorist
campaign in Afghanistan completed, the United States would focus on
redeploying its forces to bases where it is most convenient to work,
rather than bringing in more American troops.
Kolbe, a Republican from Arizona, did not provide any further details.
He is leading a delegation of five U.S. representatives to Central
