One of the less publicized checks written by Clark County government this year was for $889,000, to settle a lawsuit out of court for an automobile accident in which the county apparently did nothing wrong.
In 1990, the young driver of a Ford Escort rounded a curve north of Battle Ground and hit a tree. The driver and three young male passengers escaped serious injury; the fourth passenger was unbuckled and, terribly, became a quadriplegic at the age of 15.
