Ringing in the new year with fireworks is a tradition that’s about to fizzle out in much of Clark County.
“This will be the last time you can sell them or set them off (outside the city limits of Vancouver),” said Clark County Fire Marshal Dave Lynam.
In June, county commissioners voted to ban the sale and discharge of fireworks during a seven-hour period on New Year’s Eve. It wasn’t just a matter of safety. State law allows the county to charge $100 a year for each permit, but the combined cost of issuing a permit and inspecting a stand is $198, according to Lynam.
