Article: On eve of Cyprus reunification talks, Turkish Cypriots press for progress

Dateline: NICOSIA, Cyprus As the leaders of the divided island of Cyprus prepare to open the latest round of reunification talks, Turkish Cypriots, who say they have suffered most from the island's 27-year division, pressed Tuesday for concrete progress toward a settlement.

The Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders, Glafcos Clerides and Rauf Denktash, will meet Wednesday for talks hosted by the United Nations Cyprus envoy, Alvaro de Soto.

A dozen Turkish Cypriot women held a protest at dawn Tuesday near the Green Line that divides the capital, Nicosia, and the island.

"Mr. Denktash, unify Cyprus or we'll do it. Sign or resign," read one of their banners.
