Fed: Cold water threatening Australian rivers
CANBERRA, Jan 17 AAP - Cold water released from large dams is threatening
Australia's
rivers, endangering native fish species and harming tourism, the World
Wildlife Fund (WWF)
said today.
The WWF and Inland Rivers Network (IRN) called for the federal
and state governments
to take urgent action and establish national protocols to control
the problem.
IRN coordinator Greg Williams said all big rivers in an arc between
Moree in northern
NSW and Bendigo in Victoria were polluted by cold water discharge
each spring and summer.
