MILAN, Italy (AP) _ The La Scala opera company inaugurated a replacement theater Saturday, starting a three-year stay while its legendary Milanese venue is renovated. Fans grumbled at the theater's location but raved over the production of "La Traviata."

After struggling to reach the new Arcimboldi Theater in a former industrial area on Milan's outskirts, a sellout crowd of 2,400 gave maestro Riccardo Muti and singers Inva Mula and Marcelo Alvarez six minutes of rousing applause and six curtain calls after the 31/2-hour performance of Giuseppe Verdi's classic opera.
