Dateline: MANCHESTER, England Danny Murphy scored with five minutes remaining as Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0 Tuesday night and ended the Red Devils' eight- game winning streak in the English Premier League.

Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy failed to continue his record- setting streak of goals in eight straight Premier League games, hardly touching the ball against a stout defense.

Liverpool, which has won five straight against Manchester United, carried much of the play in the second half. Nicolas Anelka nearly scored just seconds after coming off the bench with 15 minutes left.
