Brian McBride scored three times in a 12-minute span, the first three-
goal game by a U.S. national team player since 1993, as the United
States beat El Salvador 4-0 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
In another Gold Cup quarterfinal match Sunday, South Korea beat Mexico
4-2 in a penalty kick shootout after the teams ended extra time scoreless.
The U.S. victory, coming in a constant drizzle before a Rose Bowl
crowd of 31,628, propelled the Americans into Wednesday's semifinal
against defending champion Canada. South Korea will face Costa Rica.
