Leader of a key fundamentalist Islamic party, who led a series of
anti-government rallies last year, was detained on Monday by the authorities
few hours after his release, police and party officials said.
The government of the Northwestern Frontier Province freed Qazi Hussain
Ahmed, leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, or the Islamic Party, after
almost three months' of detention. Within hours, however, provincial
authorities bundled him onto a plane for Lahore where he was arrested
again, Ahmed's party said.
Ahmed, 62, who is suffering from heart ailment, was admitted to a
private hospital in Lahore, his spokesman Ameerul Azeem said. He was ...
