Qld: Community condemns rape of young girl

BRISBANE, Jan 31 AAP - A man remains on the loose after a seven- year-old girl was allegedly raped in her bedroom in southern Queensland early today.

The young girl told police she awoke shortly after midnight to find a man in her room at her family's home in Goondiwindi, on the border with New South Wales.

The man allegedly raped and sexually assaulted her before fleeing through an open window and into the backyard.

Deputy Opposition Leader and local MP Lawrence Springborg said the town would be wary until the alleged offender was caught.
