Traveling here to regain Cuba's confidence and jump-start trade after
a rocky spot in 100 years of friendly relations, Mexican President
Vicente Fox assured Fidel Castro's administration that his government
would not back an upcoming U.N. vote to condemn the island for its
human rights record.
That assurance was the first known concrete gain from Fox's first
visit here as Mexican president _ a 24-hour stay wrapping up Monday
morning.
"The government of President Fox will not sponsor, nor co-sponsor,
nor present any proposed resolution on the theme of Cuba or vote
on the projects that others present," Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge
