THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) _ Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic went on trial Tuesday before a U.N. tribunal, accused of overseeing the murder of thousands of people and the displacement of more than a million in three Balkan wars.

Milosevic, who was expected to argue that the trial is inherently unfair, looked calm and glanced around the courtroom as the court registrar opened the proceedings by reading the case number: IT0254T.
