Article: Tel Aviv postpones Shabbat business vote

The Tel Aviv City Council postponed deciding whether to change the municipal bylaws that prohibit businesses from opening on Shabbat, at its meeting last night. A proposed amendment would allow places of entertainment to remain open on Shabbat and religious holidays, like in many other cities.

The council decided to postpone voting on the issue in order to allow all those who wanted to express their opinions on it to the council an opportunity to do so.

Mayor Ronni Milo initiated the amendment several months ago following the controversy over the operating hours of the movie theater at the recently opened shopping mall in Ramat Aviv.
