(Daily Trojan) (U-WIRE) LOS ANGELES -- While students who apply to University of California may not have to take the SAT, University of Southern California needs such a requirement to make a fair assessment of geographically diverse applicants, officials said.

An exam designed exclusively to reflect California's high school curriculum could replace the standardized test in 2006, UC officials said.

"These are very tentative recommendations and they rely on the passage of proposal and development of tests," said Hanan Eisenman, media coordinator for admissions for the UC.
